Primary Biliary Cholangitis

  • Autoimmune disorder characterized by destruction of the intrahepatic ducts
  • Most commonly presents among middle-aged women with other autoimmune conditions

Signs and Symptoms
  • Presents with progressive jaundice, pruritis, vitamin ADEK deficiency

Investigation
  • ↑ ALP, ↑ bilirubin, ↑ cholesterol, antimitochondrial antibody +ve
  • Liver biopsy

Management
  • Cholestyramine for pruritus
  • Ursodeoxycholic acid may slow the progression of the disease
  • Liver transplantation
