Ventricular Fibrillation

  • Lack of organized depolarization, contraction of the ventricles and no cardiac output
  • The most common cause of sudden cardiac death
  • The patients are in cardiac arrest, with ECG showing shapeless ventricular activity with variable morphology.
  • May be progress into asystole without intervention
  • Associated with MI, electrolyte imbalances (hypokalaemia), hypotension, history of smoking, male gender

Management
  • Initiate the advanced cardiac life support (ACLS)
